There is a disturbing increase in the frequency and severity of assaults, batteries, shootings and other crimes in mobilehome parks. These crimes put residents, especially the elderly, very young, women, disabled and other potential victims at severe risk. WMA has sought new laws to provide effective relief.
But the state legislature, and tenant organizations, oppose change and fear abuse of any new remedy. So the self-imposed suffering is perpetuated. Perhaps it is time for real preparedness: firearms training and practice, defense education and preparation. Classes sponsored by management for needy and willing residents. A new consciousness to harden the target and shoot back in mobilehome parks. Maybe it is time for parks to be more proactive because if the state legislature and GSMOL seek to stop park owners from acting, at least the residents can take care of themselves.
